About us
About The Listening River
A place to pause, reflect, and move forward at your own pace
Whether someone comes to us for therapy, supervision, wellbeing workshops, our aim is always the same—to meet people where they are, honour their story and help them move forward with greater confidence.
The Listening River is more than a therapy practice. It is a growing community centred around emotional wellbeing, lifelong learning and creative approaches to personal growth. Through counselling, supervision, workshops, books and educational resources, we hope to make things feel welcoming, practical and accessible to everyone.
Our name reflects the way we work. Rivers do not rush or force their way forward. They adapt, find new paths and continue flowing. We believe people have that same capacity for resilience and growth when they are given the right support.
At The Listening River, we believe that every person deserves to be heard without judgement. Life can sometimes feel overwhelming, uncertain or emotionally exhausting, but like a river, it is always moving. Even when the water feels still, change is possible.
Our practice was created to offer a calm, compassionate space where people of all ages can explore their experiences, discover their strengths and find a way forward that feels right for them.
Together we bring two complementary perspectives.
Helen Wheeler is an experienced psychotherapist, clinical supervisor and former Clinical Lead with many years of supporting children, young people, adults, couples and fellow professionals. Her person-centred approach creates a warm, accepting environment where clients feel safe to explore difficult emotions, strengthen relationships and reconnect with themselves.
Louise Parker is an experienced educator with over 25 years of helping adults build confidence through learning. She is passionate about making new ideas accessible and believes everyone deserves the opportunity to grow, whatever their age or starting point. Louise leads our educational resources, AI learning programmes and practical wellbeing projects, helping people embrace change with curiosity rather than fear.
Together we share a simple belief:
Learning and healing belong to everyone.
Come as you are. Leave more yourself.

Recognize. Understand. Change.
Holistic psychotherapy
Come as you are. Leave more yourself.
I believe that every person deserves a space where they can slow down, feel heard, and make sense of life’s challenges without fear of judgement. Therapy isn’t about becoming someone different—it’s about reconnecting with who you already are beneath the weight of stress, pain, loss, or life’s experiences.
I’m Helen a psychotherapist, clinical supervisor, and workshop facilitator with experience supporting children, young people, adults and couples. My work has taken me through schools, the charitable sector, clinical leadership, private practice and supervision, giving me a broad understanding of the many ways emotional wellbeing affects our lives.
I hold a Master’s degree in Psychotherapy and have continued to develop my practice through specialist training, including safeguarding, a diploma in clinical supervision and working with complex presentations. Alongside my private practice, I have led clinical teams and supported other therapists in developing confidence, ethical practice and reflective thinking.
My approach is rooted in person-centred therapy. I believe that healing happens within genuine, trusting relationships where you are accepted exactly as you are. I won’t tell you how to live your life or offer quick fixes. Instead, I work alongside you with warmth, curiosity and compassion, helping you understand yourself more deeply and discover your own way forward.
I welcome people from all walks of life and have experience working with:
- Children and young people
- Adults
- Couples
- LGBTQ+ clients
- Neurodivergent clients
- Anxiety, depression and stress
- Trauma and difficult life experiences
- Relationship difficulties
- Self-esteem and identity
- Life transitions and loss
Alongside therapy, I provide reflective clinical supervision for both trainee and qualified therapists. My supervision offers a supportive, collaborative space where practitioners can think deeply about their work, develop professionally and care for themselves while caring for others.
I also facilitate creative wellbeing workshops, combining therapeutic knowledge with creativity to help people reconnect with themselves in meaningful and practical ways.
The name The Listening River reflects how I see therapy. A river doesn’t rush or force its way forward. It flows at its own pace, adapting to obstacles while continuing its journey. I believe people are much the same. Given the right conditions, we naturally find our own direction, strength and resilience.
Whether you’re coming to therapy for the first time, returning after a break, or looking for thoughtful clinical supervision, you’ll be welcomed with warmth, respect and acceptance.
I’d be honoured to walk alongside you for part of your journey.
