Therapy with Adolescents
Adolescence is a time of enormous change. Young people are developing their own identity, learning to manage increasingly complex emotions, navigating friendships and relationships, and facing growing expectations at school, home, and online.
For many teenagers, this can feel overwhelming. They may struggle to find the words to explain what they are experiencing or worry about being judged if they do.
At The Listening River, we offer a safe, accepting space where young people can explore their thoughts and feelings at their own pace. Therapy isn't about telling them what to do or trying to 'fix' them. Instead, it's about helping them understand themselves, develop confidence, and discover healthy ways of coping with life's challenges.
We work collaboratively with each young person, recognising that every individual is unique. Sessions are tailored to their needs, strengths, and stage of development.
Young people may come to therapy for many reasons, including:
• Anxiety and worry
• Low mood or depression
• School or college pressures
• Friendship difficulties
• Family changes or conflict
• Bereavement and loss
• Low self-esteem and confidence
• Identity and belonging
• Emotional regulation
• Neurodiversity, including ADHD and autism
Our aim is to provide a calm and supportive relationship where young people feel listened to, respected, and understood, helping them build resilience and move forward with greater confidence.
"Every young person deserves a place where their voice matters and their story can be heard."
